Technical due diligence

Our technical due diligence services bring together document reviews and, where needed, site inspections to support the assessment of an investment.

In a solar due diligence we go to site and examine the plant in place. Our aim is not to pass judgement on the plant but to set out its technical condition, so that the investment decision rests on it. The technical due diligence checklist is set for each transaction, from the documents to be reviewed to the measurements to be taken on site.

How we work

Carried out for investors, financial institutions and buyers, these reviews can also form the technical side of a lenders' technical advisor (LTA) role. The technical due diligence report sets out the plant's technical condition and our findings for the investment decision.

  • Aerial drone view straight down onto the rows of a solar plant

    Site inspection

We go to a built plant and examine the site in person. Where useful we take drone photographs of the plant and base part of our assessment on them.

  • A multimeter with probes on electrical schematic drawings

    Document review

We assess the existing project documents, ground surveys and other technical records against one another.

  • Laptop showing analysis charts on a desk

    Review of the yield study

We go through an energy yield study prepared by another firm, such as the one a lender reads in a bankability report, and assess its assumptions.

  • A technician in a hard hat inspecting a module at a ground-mount plant

    Visual and electrical inspections

Before an acquisition we carry out visual and electrical inspections at the plant and record its technical condition.

What we deliver

Our deliverables are set by the scope of each job; we do not hand over the same report package on every project.

  • Hands marking up technical drawings beside a laptop

    The scope of the review

We state which documents were reviewed, what was done on site and where the review's limits lie.

  • An open notebook of sketches with a magnifier and pencil

An assessment of the existing documents

We compare the project documents and technical records with one another and record the gaps and contradictions.

  • Two engineers in hard hats walking through a ground-mount solar plant

    Site measurements

We present the results of our visual and electrical inspections on site together with the measurement conditions.

  • Three engineers walking and talking under an elevated array

    Technical assessments

We explain, in our engineering opinion, what the findings mean for the plant's technical condition.

  • A report binder with printed charts and glasses

    Conclusions

We bring the findings an investment decision can rest on together in a short, clear summary.

In a technical due diligence our job is not to pass judgement on the plant but to set out what we find on site and in the documents clearly enough for an investment decision to rest on it.
